The not-in-my-backyard-syndrome

In 2022, the energy sector and Denmark’s leading energy provider, Andel, faced a shocking reality. In the past two years, 82% of all projected wind farms had been stopped due to local protests from a small but loud minority, who didn’t want to see the green transition happen in their own backyard (not-in-my-backyard-syndrome). There were simply no places to put up new windturbines.

Challenge

Give a voice to the silent majority

“The Green Search” sparked a nationwide debate about the not-in-my-backyard-mindset and invited the big majority of Danes, who support local wind farms, to submit the exact locations for, where they would like to see more wind turbines.

Meanwhile, an AR-filter allowed the doubters to experience that local wind turbines are not that disturbing at all.

Idea
We also developed an AR filter so people could experiment with how a wind turbine would look in their own neighbourhood
On the campaign site, people could suggest places for wind turbines in their area.
The media picked up the campaign too.
