Teenage girls quite football at a much higher rate than boys

Football is one of the most popular sports for young girls in Denmark. But when they reach their teenage years, 25% drop out. While some quit because of practical issues such as transport time, late training and competing interests, our research identified one non-structural issue: girls received too little recognition to feel the same sense of belonging as boys. Could F.C. Copenhagen and main sponsor Andel give girls that recognition when they need it most - before they quit?

Challenge

Hall of Femme

Instead of a hall of fame for a select few, we created Hall of Femme. A hall of fame for all 55,874 football girls in Denmark. Girls could claim their spot in Hall of Femme online, receive a personalised diploma and see their names and faces occupy nationwide outdoors and banners on Parken, the national stadium – a stage normally reserved for the men’s elite.

Idea

"We want girls and boys to see each other as equal on a football pitch."
